Everyone at SureCare Glasgow is celebrating after our colleague Shan Singh was named Care Worker of the Year at the Scottish Care Awards 2026.
The award was presented at the Scottish Care National Care at Home & Housing Support Awards, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow. The category recognises the outstanding contribution care workers make in supporting people to live independently at home while maintaining their dignity, wellbeing and quality of life.
Shan’s award is recognition of the compassion, dedication and professionalism he brings to his role every day. Since joining SureCare Glasgow, he has consistently gone above and beyond for the people he supports, building trusted relationships with individuals and families and ensuring that the people in his care remain at the centre of every decision.
Stephanie Crolla, Registered Manager at SureCare Glasgow, said:
“Shan consistently demonstrates what compassionate care truly looks like in practice. He has an exceptional ability to understand what matters most to the people he supports and ensures their dignity, independence and sense of identity remain central to the support they receive.
“He approaches every day with empathy, patience and genuine dedication, recognising that care is about much more than completing tasks – it’s about helping people continue to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.”
The Scottish Care Awards are among the most respected awards within Scotland’s social care sector and recognise individuals, teams and organisations making a positive difference within communities across the country.
Professor Donald Macaskill, CEO of Scottish Care, said:
“The homecare and housing support sector is vital to the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities across Scotland. These awards are a celebration of the dedication, compassion and innovation that characterise the people who deliver care every day.”
For SureCare Glasgow, Shan’s achievement also reflects the wider culture within the organisation and its commitment to investing in its people.
We believe that delivering exceptional care starts with supporting and developing exceptional carers. Through structured in-house training, ongoing professional development and strong leadership support, we ensure our team has the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to provide outstanding care to the people who rely on us.
Our dedicated Care Quality and Training Lead, Nicola Vickers, works closely with carers to support continuous learning and development, while regular awareness sessions delivered by organisations such as Alzheimer Scotland help staff deepen their understanding of dementia and the challenges many families face.
Sammira and Sumaira, Directors of SureCare Glasgow, said:
“We are absolutely delighted for Shan and incredibly proud of this achievement. This award recognises not only Shan’s dedication, but also the values we strive to uphold across our organisation every day.
“Our focus has always been on supporting our staff, investing in training and creating a culture where compassionate, person-centred care can thrive. Seeing one of our carers recognised on a national stage is a wonderful reflection of the commitment shown by our entire team.”
Shan himself was delighted to receive the award, saying:
“I am very surprised but thrilled and honoured to be chosen as a winner in these prestigious awards.”
This recognition is a proud moment for everyone at SureCare Glasgow and a reminder of the incredible difference dedicated care professionals make in the lives of the people and families they support every day.
